I love this story. The dog's owner smartly called the electric company, just trying to talk to anyone that may have been in the area and seen the dog. What luck that he got the dispatcher that he got on the phone, who was willing to go the extra mile. Great story. Enjoy it.


LCEC employee rescues lost Cape Coral Dog

When a Cape Coral pet owner recently called Lee County Electric Cooperative (LCEC) they received more than electric service.

A frantic dog owner called to see if by chance anyone at LCEC may have seen his lost dog, Amelia, while in the area.

The LCEC customer service representative he spoke to put the wheels in motion and began to poll employees who may have been in the area the day the dog was lost. After contacting several employees at home that night, she discovered that an LCEC Meter Reader/Collector Shawn Simmons may have rescued the dog.

The customer service representative left messages for the customer and followed up with him later that weekend until she was sure owner and dog were reunited.

Simmons started the chain of events when he did not hesitate to stop his truck as he noticed a dog wandering down a Cape Coral street.

“As soon as I stopped the truck, I saw the dog almost get hit by a car,” Simmons said. Simmons immediately whistled to the dog to get it off the street and out of harm’s way.

“I knocked on the door of every house on the block to see if anyone knew the dog’s owners, but no one did,” Simmons said. Still determined to get the dog to safety, Simmons told a group of construction workers nearby that he was taking the dog to a safe place

Amelia and her owner were reunited and the customer was thrilled. To the LCEC employees, it was just another day of providing great customer service!
