Dog Missing for Nearly 2 Months is Found, Reunited With Owner

A pet owner who was devastated when her dog went missing for nearly two months after escaping from a Culver City boarding facility got the happy ending she had badly wanted: a reunion with her precious pooch.

Lori Tritel was reunited with her dog “Josie,” a Border Collie mix, about two weeks ago after an exhaustive search that ended up costing her thousands of dollars, she told KTLA on Saturday.

Josie went missing on April 18 after she jumped over a 12-foot-high fence while in the care of Doggie Central.

Tritel, who was at the facility at the time in another room and had watched in horror as her dog jumped the fence, was devastated when Josie escaped.

“She ran toward their back fence. I started screaming,” Tritel tearfully told KTLA after her dog went missing. “We just have a bond. I think people with animals know that bond… and I just want to bring her home.”

Desperate to get her beloved dog back, Josie hired a team to find her. After seven weeks of following tips, handing out fliers and searching for her beloved pet, all of the efforts paid off — Tritel and Josie were finally reunited.

“I reached out, I held more chicken out for her, and she came right into my chest. It was amazing,” she said, her eyes filling with tears.

Tritel spent about $7,000 of her own money to hire the team of experts and to pay for the cost of supplies that led to Josie being found.

And while she is overjoyed at having Josie back, Tritel — who blames Doggie Central for losing Josie in the first place — said she believed the facility should reimburse her for the expenses related to locating the dog.

“What I want is compensation, I want reimbursement for the cost of the search,” she said. “I think it’s a dog facility’s responsibility to have a fence that cannot be jumped.”

However, Faith Mantooth, the owner of Doggie Central, disagreed that the facility should have to cover the full cost.

Mantooth, who is billed as the “Chief Cuddler” on the company’s website, also contended that the facility had proper precautions in place designed to prevent dogs from escaping.

“She went out the back and scaled a 12-foot fence with barbed wire on the top of it,” Mantooth said.

Mantooth told KTLA in April that no dog had ever gotten over it before Josie did. .

“We’ve never had a dog ever go over that fence, that’s the reason it’s so high and has barbed wire on it. I was in shock,” Mantooth said.

But on Saturday Mantooth said similar situations have happened four times.

“We have been a business 16 years. We have had hundreds of dogs here. To have four dogs get over or out the fence, especially in the beginning years … is to me a perfect track record,” she said.

One of those dogs was killed after running out the facilities front door in 2007 and getting hit by a vehicle.

Mantooth told KTLA on Saturday that she had added additional safeguards to the facility. She also said she has apologized.

Doggie Central has shelled out $2,000 to Tritel, and Mantooth said she did not believe the facility should have to pay her any more than it already had.

Dog Missing Since 2007 Reunited With Owners After 7 Years

A black Labrador retriever who went missing during the 2007 California wildfires has finally found his way home. The dog was reunited with his owners in San Diego on April 1 thanks a $10 microchip the family had implanted in the pup as a precaution, according to Fox 5.

Another Happy Tale for the otherwise dreadful MONDAY!!!

Mr. Hartman had his dog "Buddy" microchipped and neutered in 2005 after he was impounded after he escaped from the yard one day.

In 2007 the devestating fires that burned through San Diego County left Mr. Hartman and his family without a home. Mr. Hartman called the Department and updated his contact information and notified us that Buddy was displaced after the fires and they were looking for him.

Seven years later, Buddy comes to the shelter on Gaines Street. When we scanned him for the microchip and called Mr. Hartman right away. The family was absolutely estatic that he was found!!

Mr. Hartman and his wife have since moved to Oklahoma but were in San Diego visiting their son when they got the call. Coincidence or fate?

April 1, 2014, Mr. Hartman and his wife picked up 10 year old Buddy and they left San Diego to head back to Oklahoma. A $10 microchip made it all happen!

John Hartman and his wife, who have since moved to Oklahoma, were visiting their son in the southern California city earlier this month when they received an unusual call from the county's Department of Animal Services. A passerby reportedly found the Lab wandering near Imperial Beach and brought him into a local animal shelter. When workers scanned the dog's microchip they realized the lost pup belonged to the Hartmans and had been missing for nearly seven years.

"We’ve reunited animals from across the country and even the world with their owners, but seven years is one of the longest time periods we were able to reunite a pet and its owner," Dan DeSousa, deputy director of San Diego's Department of Animal Services, told County News Center.

The Hartmans, who lost their home in the wildfires, weren't sure what happened to Buddy after the blaze. Though someone initially found the pup at the time, he escaped and was last seen in the area of Imperial Beach in late 2007. It seems Buddy found a new home, and may have gotten loose when he was spotted on March 28.

"He's in really good health. Whoever had him took really good care of him," Hartman told CBS 8.

Earlier this month, another Labrador who went missing shortly before Hurricane Sandy was reunited with his family after 17 months.

Indiana family reunited with lost dog after five years

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) - Imagine losing touch with a beloved family member, and thinking you'll never see them again. But then, thanks to technology, you find them more than four years later. That's what happened to a family in southern Indiana, and WDRB was there Saturday for the reunion.

Outside a Louisville restaurant, Bryianna Portela is being as patient as possible. "So excited to see her," she says. "Wonder if she'll remember us. We're anxiously awaiting, what do you think about how far out they are?"

The reunion she's prayed for, is finally here. "There's a lot of adrenaline," she says. "I haven't even slept well, just kind of building up to it."

Nearly five years ago, their boxer mix, Bella, went missing from their home in southern Indiana. On Monday, April 7th, a call from a shelter more than 300 miles away. A microchip scan showed Bella was alive and well in Alabama.

Bryianna talked about the phone call she'd been waiting for. "They said 'are you so and so at this address and this number?' and I said 'yes', and I said 'well the last dog that I had micro-chipped, was this dog and it looked like this' and she sent a picture and I sent a picture and we verified that it was my dog and I was just shocked."

Her prayers were answered, and with the help of the shelter and Heart to Heart rescue volunteers, Bella is back in town.

"I see her, she has a pink collar on," said Portela, as she waited in a parking lot outside. An eager mom, and by the looks of the wagging tail, an excited pup. "It's been such a long time, my old friend."

Long enough that it may take time to adjust, especially since Bella was only about a 1 ½ when she went missing. "Bella, Bella! I wish I knew what they called her before but she'll have to get used to Bella again."

Lost dog returned to owners after 17 months

 WEST WINDSOR — The Cruz family thought it was an April Fool’s joke.

The Hillsborough residents received a phone call that their family’s dog, which was missing for 17 months, had been found on Tuesday.

”We were thinking what a cruel April Fool’s joke but they actually found Wesley and because of his microchip he was returned to us after 17 months,” Miguel Cruz said.Earlier that morning, at 7:20 a.m. on April 1, West Windsor police officer Lee Brodowski was dispatched to attend to a loose dog in the area of Manor Ridge and Stonelea in West Windsor.

”He retrieved a very friendly and very large Labrador,” Lt. Robert Garofalo said. “The dog jumped right into the back of his patrol car and was more than happy to go for a ride.”

The dog, later identified as Wesley, was transported to Weber’s Boarding Training facility where staff could read his microchip.

”Dispatcher (Austin) Fountain utilized this information to obtain his owner information,” Lt. Garofalo said.

“Dispatcher Fountain contacted Myra Cruz and inquired about her lost dog. Mrs. Cruz believed the phone call may have been an April Fool’s prank as her dog had been missing since November 2012. Dispatcher Fountain assured her it was not a prank.”

The entire Cruz family, Myra and Miguel and their 12-year-old son Sebastian, immediately made the approximately 18-mile trek from Hillsborough, where the dog disappeared, to West Windsor police headquarters.

”I’ve never seen a kid throw down his supper as fast as he did,” Mr. Cruz said of how his son reacted to the news. “He was thrilled. He couldn’t believe it. He was jumping up and down.”

The Cruzes met Wesley in the lobby of police headquarters.

”Wesley was clearly happy to be back with his family,” Lt. Garofalo said.

Lt. Garofalo and the family both said the dog appeared to have been cared for as he was overweight and was not showing signs of being outside for a long time.

”Whoever took care of him did a pretty good job,” Mr. Cruz said. “He looks pretty fat. We’ll get him back into shape again.”

Wesley went missing from the yard two days before Hurricane Sandy. Mr. Cruz thought the pooch ran off following the scent of an animal but got very upset when the dog didn’t return home.

”We thought maybe he got run over by a car or a deer killed him in the field,” Mr. Cruz said. “We’re so happy he survived and was picked up and returned to us because of his chip. We were so sad; so distraught for 17 months. We talked about him until the very end and never gave up hope.” When Wesley returned home all of the scents, sights and sounds familiar to him set in and “this morning he was all smiles like he was saying, ‘Hey, I’m back,’” Mr. Cruz said on Wednesday.

Officer Brodowski as well as others in the police department were very happy about this great reunion.



”It is positive stories like this that makes everyone’s day,” Lt. Garofalo said.

3 years and 120 miles later, a missing dog is found

If dogs could talk, this one would have quite a story.

Three years after disappearing from his Albuquerque home, a dog named Yoshi was found more than a hundred miles away at an animal shelter in Las Vegas, N.M., KOAT.com reports.

How Yoshi, a red heeler and husky mix, ended up so far away from home is still a mystery and will likely remain one.

Monique Martinez adopted the pooch when Yoshi was just a puppy. She told KOAT.com that a short time later, Yoshi broke out of her yard while she was at school.

Martinez looked all around the neighborhood but couldn't find her missing dog. About a week after Yoshi disappeared, Martinez heard he may have been hit by a car, according to KOAT.com.

So how was Yoshi found? Fortunately the dog had been given a microchip implant. The microchip contained information about his owner and address. When Yoshi showed up at the shelter, workers checked the microchip and contacted Martinez. The dog was reportedly a bit underweight but in otherwise fine condition.

We hope you had a good time exploring America's Southwest, Yoshi, because something tells us you're gonna have a tough time escaping a second time.

Couple reunited with lost dog after burglary

KANSAS CITY, Mo. —A Kansas City couple came home to find their house burglarized and their beloved golden retriever missing.

"We come into the living room and the back door is wide open and the dogs are gone," said Jordan Sachoffstall.

He and Cassie Wiggs said they found their puppy, Nawla, within a few hours. But Heidi was nowhere to be found.

They searched everywhere and posted items on social media in hopes it would help get Heidi back.

They said everything seemed hopeless until they got a phone call from Wayside Waifs.

"They said that they had our baby," Wiggs said. "A good man had brought her in and he was taking care of her, letting her sleep in his bed, and that's all I wanted."

"We had to tell ourselves that somebody who loves dogs like we do is going to have her in their house and they are going to keep her warm and they are going to feed her and they are going to bring her home to us," Sachoffstall said

Matt McClain said he took pity on Heidi when he found her outside his house. He said he lives on the opposite side of Interstate 49 from Heidi's owners.

"Last night it was nasty and stormy out, and she was outside on my front porch howling, wanting someone to bring her in," he said.

He said he took her to Wayside Waifs.

"We walked in the front door and she's standing right there in the lobby waiting for us, crying. And she just ran to us," said Sachoffstall.

Heidi is now back home with her family.

Dog stolen 5 years ago to be reunited with owner

HOUSTON — A dog stolen from his owner more than five years ago will finally get to go back home after a local couple found the animal.

“Pulling into the driveway, I saw him wandering in the road,” said Stephen Collins. “I assumed he’d been a stray for at least a little while.”



Collins and his wife, Allie, took the dog to a vet and found out he had a microchip. Turns out the little schnauzer was stolen from his owners who were visiting Houston from San Antonio.

“Supposedly someone just broke the window and took him out of the car,” said Collins. “It’s pretty sad.”

But this story has a happy ending. The couple was able to reach the dog’s new owner and they’re planning a reunion for Saturday morning.

“I can’t imagine what the last five years would’ve been like for him, to be stolen, who knows, it would be very interesting to hear what he had to say,” Allie Collins said.

David McCary, the dog’s owner, said his pet’s real name is “Prince Henry.”

“You can only imagine what it was like to get that call today,” said McCary. “This just really shows that there are great citizens out there.”

After missing for some five years, Prince Henry will finally make his way back home this weekend.

“It brought tears to your eyes and it’s just the most warm, heartfelt moment you can have,” McCary said.

Good Samaritan helps dog hit by car on side of road, reunites with family

RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) - Two women hug in a full, tearful embrace, despite having never met before. By all accounts, they are strangers, but Shannyn Sneed and Ruby Sabir are tied by their love for a lost and hurting dog.

Loshay, a white and red Coonhound, escaped from home Friday. Sneed found him whimpering on the side of the road, in terrible condition. She knew very quickly that he needed her help and his life was in her hands.

"I saw a dog rear up in the ditch," said Sneed. "It just it broke my heart."

She pulled over and ran to comfort Loshay until help arrived to take him to the emergency vet. For days, she wondered whether he had survived and whether he was okay.

On the first day, Loshay's family drove until their car ran out of gas. They tirelessly searched for him on foot, wondering where he could be and whether he was ok.

"We thought he was gone!" said Ruby Sabir. "We thought we lost him!"

Loshay's family went to look for him at the shelter and learned he'd been hit by a car and taken to the vet.

"We didn't even know if he was alive for half an hour," said Sabir.

Loshay has extensive injuries. He still can't stand and his back legs may never work again, but his family is hopeful he'll recover. Seeing him again, knowing he is alive, meant everything to the family.

"He came into our house as an angel," said Sabir. "He is just our light. We just can't imagine our lives without him."

For his life, they have Shannyn Sneed to thank and Sneed wanted desperately to talk to the hurting dog she comforted nights before.

"See. I told you it was going to be okay!" she said tearfully to Loshay.

"It was wonderful, just wonderful," said Sneed. "Just to see his family loving on him and you know, just lots of little kids that are thrilled to have their puppy dog back. "

"We always called him an angel because he came to our house like an angel and now you are an angel to us," Sabir said to Sneed.

Surrounded by his family, including several children, Loshay is recovering. He's far from better. But he is where he belongs. And everyone is grateful for that.

December 19, German Shepherds Natia and Sergeant, a mother and son, disappeared after getting through a fence in the yard. Their owner wasn't sure she'd ever see them again.

"I was just frantic, all I wanted to do was get them home!" Stephanie Howell said.

Now, after 10 days of wandering around Lincoln, they're all back together.

Natia was found near 120th and Pine Lake, lost and alone. She traveled 10 miles from her new home and ended up next door to her previous owner, who received a call that the dog was back.

"We went and picked her up, when she saw us she immediately came to us, got her home and just babied her and loved on her," Howell said.

The question remained, where was Sergeant?

Less than 24 hours later, Howell received another call.

"I said well does the dog have collar, and he said 'yeah a nice, big blue one,' and I about dropped the phone," she said.

Sergeant was found across town, near the Havelock Rail yard; skiddish, limping, and about 30 lbs. lighter.

Sam Franklin from the Missing Pet Partnership helped Stephanie get hold of her dogs.

"She used calming signals perfectly, perfectly and Sarg came right to her, it was amazing," Franklin said.

"It was just the best moment for me to get my hands on his collar," Howell said.

After nearly 10 days of Facebook posts, flyers, and searching for her German Shepherds, the family is back together.

House fire leads to reunion between dog, owner

HOUSTON – A house fire at a north Houston home led to an unexpected reunion for a woman and her dog Thursday.

According to the Houston Fire Department, the house fire was first reported at 11:30 a.m. on the 1100 block of Hartwick Drive when two neighbors saw smoke coming from the home.

The two men, Bob Johnson and Armando Delatorre, said they had to kick in the front door to rescue the homeowner who was asleep inside.

“I was on my hands and knees, but I could see the flames around the kitchen,” Johnson said.

The neighbors worked to contain the fire until firefighters arrived on the scene.

“So we got the water hoses, broke the windows and tried to put the fire out through the windows,” Delatorre said.

At first, they had no idea someone was inside and then they saw him.

“The guy just walked out. I guess he couldn’t find his way until we opened the doors and the guy just walked out,” Delatoore said.

That guy was Rolondo Perez’s father, who was alone in the house along with their three dogs.

“That was all I was worried about, just my dad. I mean the dogs, too. I’m just glad they all made it,” Perez said.

They made it out with just minor injuries. The dogs needed some help breathing though.

And then a day of dramatic rescues took an unexpected twist when neighbor Shiree Hicks came by.

“And I looked over to see if everyone was OK and I saw Jingles,” Hicks said.

“I just moved over here. I had her and she was caged in the back. She squeezed through the fence and got away and I had never seen her anymore."

The Perez family found the escaped dog, but did not know who she belonged to.

“We just kept her. We were waiting to see if someone would come looking for her and no one ever came so we just kept her,” Perez said.



Of course, that was until Thursday’s fire and dramatic rescue. “Because of the fire, I found my dog,” Hicks said.

Stolen dog, owner, reunited in time for Christmas

LOWELL - Norma Von Fricken said she was praying to St. Anthony all day Monday for the safe return of her dog, missing for nine days since her car was stolen in Lowell with the little pet inside.

She said that although she had a few dark days, losing her faith after the incident, this past weekend she knew it would only be a matter of time before her 6-year-old rat terrier Luke showed up again.

Norma Von Fricken snuggles with her returned Luke, who was stolen, along with her Honda Civic, last week. Luke was found in Boston.

Only hours after Von Fricken prayed for her dog, Monday morning she said she received a call from Boston police they had found Luke, and he had been in their pound since last Saturday, Dec. 14, the day Von Fricken's car was stolen.

"I tell you, Jesus is alive and well," Von Fricken said inside her kitchen Monday night, with Luke prancing around her feet.

Meanwhile, a missing pitbull reportedly stolen this past weekend in Tewksbury was also returned according to officials Monday. Von Fricken's drama began when she left the engine running to keep the dog warm when she parked outside Eliot Presbyterian Church in Lowell to drop off some Christmas decorations at that time. She said she ran inside the Summer Street church to make the donation around 11 a.m. and was not gone for longer than 10 minutes.

Von Fricken said she borrowed a friend's car as soon as she got the call Monday and zipped down to the city to claim her friend. A microchip scan confirmed this dog was hers, and she brought him home. Monday night, she said she was preparing a turkey for both of them to enjoy.

A spokesman for the Boston Police Department confirmed Luke was found just outside the police station in Back Bay. Von Fricken's car was still missing as of Monday night.

Von Fricken found Luke three years ago at the Lowell Humane Society. Humane Society Executive Director Jill O'Connell said she was elated when she heard the good news of his safe return. The local shelter had put out a call to help Von Fricken last week, asking residents to be on the lookout for Luke. They coordinated with missing-dog groups in New Hampshire and beyond to keep a sharp eye out for him.

Von Fricken said though she questioned her faith previously, the kindness and support of her community brought her back. She said her mailman took Luke's photo and showed it around the neighborhood to try to help locate him. Then an 8-year-old son of a parishioner called to make sure Von Fricken was doing all right. Monday evening, the Rev. Thysan Sam of Eliot Presbyterian stopped by to check in, too. She told him Luke was completely unharmed and the car thief must have stolen her Honda, and then taken Luke to Boston to drop him off.

"The Lord is in everybody. He's in the mailman, he's in that little child," she said. "... I'm so happy to have Luke back."



Meanwhile, in the Tewksbury case, the dog's owner, Samantha Halley, 24, claimed her ex-boyfriend took her dog, named Lucc, without permission Saturday night when her parents let the dog out into their fenced-in backyard area on Emily Drive. Halley said she saw footprints indicating the dog left the area with another person.

Lucc, a 2-year-old pitbull with golden brown hair and a bright red nose, was returned by an anonymous person according to Tewksbury police on Sunday. Tewksbury police Lt. Robert Stephens said officials continue to investigate whether a person stole Lucc or if the dog was lost on its own.

Lowell Deputy Police Superintendent Deborah Friedl confirmed police will continue to investigate the theft of Von Fricken's vehicle in her case. For now, Von Fricken said she is planning to purchase a new car, and to enjoy Christmas with her family and her beloved dog.

Good Samaritan Reunites Dog Missing In BWCA With Owners

ST PAUL, Minn (WCCO) – A dog that went missing in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area for two weeks is back home with his St. Paul family.

JJ, a border collie mix, ran off while camping in the BWCA with a friend of his owners. JJ is skittish around strangers and was startled by a camper walking on a path. At the same time, lightning hit and JJ took off into the woods.

A good Samaritan helped reunite the dog with his family on Tuesday.

The simple tricks we all teach our pets have never been so important to 10-year-old Ava Rohleder.

“I think he’s very happy to be home,” she said.

Up until Tuesday, she and her family wondered if they’d ever see their dog again.

“I was very sad,”  Rohleder said. “I was super scared for him.”

“You feel him, he’s just bones,” said Nicole Paradise, JJ’s owner.

The border collie’s thin body is the only sign of his two-week ordeal in the BWCA.

“He just took off and ran,” Paradise said.

After 11 days without any solid leads, the family started giving up hope of his return.

“The house is so empty without him,” Rohleder said. “We had started looking to get another dog at pet adoption organizations, because walking in a house, without a dog, when you always have one there, is just sad.”

A sighting posted on a message board brought renewed faith. A camper spotted JJ near Sawbill Lake. Nicole and her husband, Greg, jumped in the car and headed north.

“If there was a chance, he was still OK, we couldn’t not try,” Paradise said.

JJ started visiting Mike Raub’s campsite over the weekend.

He and his fellow campers fed the dog spaghetti and pancakes, but could never get close enough to put a leash on him.

On Monday, Nicole and Greg ran into Raub while searching for the dog and learned that JJ was at Raub’s campsite.

However, when they arrived, the dog had run off.

The couple stayed nearly four hours waiting for JJ’s return, but the threat of bad weather forced them to leave the woods. A short time later, JJ returned to the campsite.

“Part of us was thinking, what if this doesn’t happen? What if he takes off running again,” Paradise said.

But this time, Raub was ready. He left a trial of hot dogs into a tent. That’s where JJ stayed until his owners arrived.

“It was unbelievable, unbelievable,” Paradise said. “Who gives their tent to a dog that’s been lost in the woods for two weeks?”

While Ava and her parents will never know how JJ survived two weeks in the wild, but they see him as more of a house dog.

“I’m going to be very protective of him,” Rohleder said.


JJ was about seven miles away from where he went missing. The vet treated JJ for tick and mosquito bites, but otherwise the dog is healthy and expected to make a full recovery.

Missing dog found alive after accident near busy interstate

A dog missing for more than 24 hours near busy Interstate 80 near Annawan has been found alive and well after surviving a car crash that killed another dog, and injured two people.

Abby, a black lab from Chillicothe, Illinois took off running after the Memorial Day car accident. Her worried owners, Steve and Jodie Kemp, couldn’t help try to find her because both were taken to a hospital in Davenport.

“That’s Steve’s baby. He’s in serious condition, and that’s the only thing he asked, is please bring Abby home!” said Jen Anderson, Kemp’s sister-in-law.

Anderson, other family members, and Annawan volunteers who heard about the missing animal searched Monday night and Tuesday morning for the dog.

At one point, she was seen in the median of the interstate. Remarkably, she made her way about a mile and a half from the crash site, across Route 6, and ended up in a muddy creek bed, away from traffic.

Around 11 a.m Tuesday, May 28, rescuers were able to get close enough to the frightened lab and coax her to safety, putting her on a leash and placing her on an ATV.

One of the rescuers, Will Addis of Annawan, said Abby calmed down when she heard her mom’s voice on a cellphone.

“It was awesome. The owner was calling her, the lady got on the phone and started calling for the dog on speakerphone, and the dog just laid down,” Addis said.

“The whole town of Annawan has been great. Everyone’s looked for her since yesterday afternoon. Some people traveled two hours. I’m just glad we got her. Hopefully Steve can start healing now, he’s going to have a long, long recovery,” Anderson said.

Sadly, the couple’s other dog was killed in the accident, which relatives say happened after a red car with Texas plates cut off the Kemps, causing their car and camper to go into a ditch.

“Please tell everyone how much we appreciated their help”, Anderson said. “We couldn’t have gotten Abby back without them!”

Homeless Man Reunited With Dog Stolen Three Weeks Ago

James Bryan, a homeless man living in Florida, woke up the morning of May 8 to find that his pet dog was missing. The dog, a blue pit bull named Handover, was the only remaining tie to Bryan's previous life, before he'd lost his farm, his home, and nearly all of his other personal belongings.

"Handover is my best friend. He's my heart and soul," Bryan told ABC Action News last week for a story about his then-missing dog. “If anybody sees him, please bring him home.”

Bryan, who lives along U.S. 19 in Hudson, Florida, feared Handover might have been targeted by someone involved with a dogfighting ring.

“I'm praying to God nobody's putting him into an arena and fighting him," Bryan said. "He is a force of nature."

Word spread about Handover's theft, and eventually Carolyn Texter, who knew Handover and Bryan from her work with animal rescues, heard and decided to help.

"That's the hardest thing I'm having right now. To even explain to my kids how someone could possibly steal someone's family member," Texter said.

Texter started a Facebook page to find Handover and, with the help of a few friends, raised a $200 reward for his return. The story eventually went viral. The Facebook page received thousands of likes and attracted the attention of local news stations. Information about and pictures of Handover was shared thousands of time. Soon, the reward money swelled to $1,000.

Wednesday afternoon, all the work paid off, and Bryan was reunited with Handover.

Handover was taken to a veterinarian for an check-up – he was healthy – and to have a microchip implanted in case he goes missing again.

So far, there's been no official word from Bryan, but on the Facebook page Texter described him as "speechless" and thankful for all the help he'd received.

As for Handover's name: He was a gift from Bryan's then-wife five years ago. As she was holding the new dog, she asked Bryan what he wanted to call his new pet. “Hand him over!” was Bryan's immediate response, and the name stuck.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Shortly after News 4 aired the story below on Wednesday, the Marciano family was reunited with their dog, Reggie.

Brandon Romer returned the dog, which had no tags on at the time, and says his tenants had taken him in.

"They own two pit bulls themselves. They found this one on the road, saw that it needed to be taken care of, took it in, tried to find it a good home," Romer explained. "I'm not sure what they were waiting on as far as giving it a good home. But they did seem to me like they had good intentions with the dog."

The family thanked Romer with the promised $500 reward.

A little girl is pleading for her dog's safe return and spreading her heartbreaking message on Facebook.

Reggie is a 4-year-old pit bull/terrier mix. He's a friendly, gentle animal that had been rescued by the Buffalo Animal Shelter and then adopted by the Marciano family from Buffalo's west side, several years ago. The dog has been growing up with the children, Joey and Ella.

Reggie's owner, David Marciano said, "Joey crawled up to Reggie and took the bone right out of his mouth, and Reggie's just licking his face."

Reggie was in the backyard without his tags two weeks ago and left the property through a space around a loose fence.

"No tag on him, which I regret. I always assumed he's in my yard, in my property, you know? You never think it's going to happen to you," David said.

The Marciano family immediately distributed hundreds of fliers, all over the west side here. And then David posted a plea from his daughter on Facebook.

In the video, Ella says, "Please help us find Reggie. We miss him."

"It's been actually going pretty crazy. This is just one post, and I put it up 13 hours ago. 77,696 people saw the post," David said. "I'm overwhelmed. I'm overwhelmed that so many people would care so much about my family and my family's dog."

A week after Reggie went missing, he was found at 15th and West Utica. A man found him and brought him to the home of an acquaintance across the street. The man then sold Reggie to a woman in a minivan for $40.

Since then, no one has been able to locate the man who sold Reggie, or the woman who purchased him.

The family is still hopeful he will be returned and are offering a $500 reward.

Elma NY (WIVB) - It was a happy reunion and special Mother's Day for one woman in Elma.

Julie Schwab was reunited with her two poodle mix dog's Tinkerbell and Mator, after they went missing from her home last week.

Mator found his way home the night they disappeared, but Tinkerbell remained missing for a while. The owner said she was worried because the weather started to change, getting colder with more rain.

On Sunday morning, a turkey hunter spotted the lost dog atop a 75 foot cliff near a waterfall in Elma.

The Elma Dog Control Officer, Spring Brook Volunteer Fire Department and Erie County Sheriff's Office teamed up for a daring animal rescue.

Officials walked 200 yards up a creek to a point they could reach the dog.

"At that point we hoisted volunteer fireman D.J. Thompson about 10 to 15 feet up a rock face, where he was able to grab onto some trees and get his hands on the dog," a fire official said.

It was Mator who helped lure Tinkerbell toward the rescuers. Rescue crews said they were happy to risk their safety to reunite the pet with her family.

"The animal is helpless. It can't do anything for itself, and everyone involved was extremely happy to stick their neck out and help the animal and help the dog owner," said the fire official.

GARFIELD, N.J. (WABC) -- Some pets have two names, like Yvette Osorio's American Eskimo dog.

She calls him Sparky, but the New Jersey train conductors who rescued him call him Lucky.

"I'm very thankful for everyone who helped my Sparky, my little lucky one," said Osorio.

Sparky's adventure began when he accidentally got out of his house in Garfield and ran away.

Lost and confused, a collar-less Sparky made his way to the Garfield train station, wandering the tracks during rush hour.

That's when the crew on train 1254 heading to Hoboken saw him cowering.

But instead of ignoring the plight of yet another stray dog, they stopped the train, got out and rescued him.

They then took Sparky on the train and brought him to Hoboken.

"I met the train when it came into Hoboken Depot," said NJ Senior Train Master Sean Kushnir. "I secured the dog. Immediately the dog was a big hit, all the passengers were waiting with their cell phones taking pictures."

Kushnir says he started calling animal shelters and police departments.

Fortunately, Sparky's owner was doing the same.

"He's a member of my family. I take care of him," said Osorio. "Everything we do is with Sparky. And to be honest, if something happens to him, he's my little baby."

Osorio works as a truck driver and still had a shift to finish before she could go home, but this time her furry 15-year old companion would be joining her.

Disabled Boy Reunited With Service Dog

CATHEDRAL CITY - Nine-year-old Dominic Cumo is reunited with his service dog, Kipper, after it went missing for more than 17 hours overnight. Dominic and his parents spent the entire morning searching for Kipper in a Cathedral City neighborhood.

KMIR 6 printed hundreds of fliers with the Shih Tzu's photo to help in the search, and Dominic's parents distributed them around the neighborhood. They knocked on many doors, went down every street and asked for anyone's help.

Dominic's father Matthew Bateman says the dog never leaves the nine-year-old's side, so it was strange last night when it suddenly went missing. The family was talking with some neighbors and children in front of an apartment unit they rent, when the dog disappeared after a few minutes.

"The dog tells us if Dominic is not breathing, so it's hard to come by a dog like that," expressed Bateman, "He's very important to Dominic." He adds that Kipper helps keep Dominic alive.

Dominic has Lou Gehrig's disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that weakens the muscles and spinal cord. People diagnosed with this disorder lose the ability to move their limbs and the muscles needed to move, eat, speak and breathe. Dominic is the only child in the world diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease.

When the dog went missing, Dominic was devastated because his service dog helps him every day.

"I've never had a dog. He's my only one," said Dominic of his trained dog, Kipper.

KMIR 6 called the Riverside County Animal Services and suggested they join in the search. They responded with a team of six volunteers in three vans to help. They drove around the neighbhorhood and distributed fliers as well, and in less than two hours, they came back to the family with a surprise.

"This is amazing, this is amazing," said Dominic with tears in his eyes.

The animals services team found Kipper just a few blocks away outside a Stater Brothers, where one of the volunteers, Amir Rheys. recognized the dog. Rheys said a man on a bicycle was trying to sell Kipper, but they stopped him just in time. Rheys said he was thrilled to have reunited Dominic with Kipper.

"Thank you...thank you so much," said Dominic with a huge smile on his face.

Solow, the miniature pinscher snatched from a car window last month, was back with his family on Wednesday after he was found wandering on the city’s Northwestside.

Philip Squires said the people who found the 4-year-old pinscher along Kessler Boulevard, West Drive took him to Michigan Road Animal Hospital, where the staff scanned his implanted microchip and identified him.

The Squires picked up Solow from the hospital Wednesday morning.

“He’s healthy and in good spirits. He’s glad to see us when we got there,” Squires said. “He’s back to his usual self. We got home, and he started sniffing around, making sure he’s in the right place.”

Solow disappeared while riding with Mary Squires on the Northwestside. She said she was at a stoplight at Georgetown Road and 56th Street on April 20 when a car pulled up closely to her right. Solow was sitting in the passenger seat, with his chin on the window edge.

The light turned green, Mary Squires stepped on the gas — and a man in the car reached over and snatched Solow out of the window.

“I don’t understand why they would’ve taken him,” Squires said. “I have no idea what was on those people’s minds when they snatched the dog out of the car.”

Dog Missing for Four Years to Be Reunited with her Family

Four years ago Joyce Green’s dog Molly was stolen from her Texas home.

Green had given up hope of ever seeing Molly again and had even moved out of state when this past week she got a phone call that Molly had been found.

Last week Molly ended up at the Humane Society of North Texas as a stray. Luckily she had a microchip and a quick scan revealed Molly had an owner. When the shelter contacted Green she could hardly believe it.

“I said, ‘Oh my god! I can’t believe you found my baby,” said Green.

The staff at the shelter was just as thrilled about the situation.

“It was so exciting to talk to Joyce to tell her Molly was safe and sound and will be back soon,” said staff member Shelly Meeks. “I love that part of the job.”

One of the staff members will be taking Molly to be reunited with Green and the rest of her family in Kansas.

Green is excited to see Molly but also excited for Molly to be reunited with her 7-year-old autistic son. Even though Trent is only 7-years-old he still remembers his dog a he two shared a special bond.

“He was her best friend,” said Green. “They did everything together.” Now they will get to spend all their time together again.
