Los Angeles Man Reunited With Stolen Dog on His Birthday

A man’s birthday wish came true Sunday morning when he was reunited with his stolen dog in the Mid-Wilshire area.
Scott Katz attended a jazz concert Friday night when his vehicle was stolen; his dog Max was inside.
After putting up numerous flyers offering a $500 reward and posting about his loss on social media, strangers found the car and Max in a parking lot near a pet adoption expo on Sunday.
“They said, ‘I think your car’s here and dog’s here, he looks fine,’” Katz said. “Today’s my birthday, so it just worked out perfectly.”
Max was found near the location he had first been stolen and appeared to be unharmed.
Katz suspected that his efforts to publicize the crime may have led to the dog’s safe return.
“Maybe the pressure of everyone knowing about it,” Katz said. “It’s pretty amazing, he’s doing fine.”

Luke, rat terrier
Stolen dog, owner, reunited in time for Christmas
By Samantha Allen
12/23/2013
LOWELL - Norma Von Fricken said she was praying to St. Anthony all day Monday for the safe return of her dog, missing for nine days since her car was stolen in Lowell with the little pet inside.
She said that although she had a few dark days, losing her faith after the incident, this past weekend she knew it would only be a matter of time before her 6-year-old rat terrier Luke showed up again.
Only hours after Von Fricken prayed for her dog, Monday morning she said she received a call from Boston police they had found Luke, and he had been in their pound since last Saturday, Dec. 14, the day Von Fricken's car was stolen.
"I tell you, Jesus is alive and well," Von Fricken said inside her kitchen Monday night, with Luke prancing around her feet.
Meanwhile, a missing pitbull reportedly stolen this past weekend in Tewksbury was also returned according to officials Monday. Von Fricken's drama began when she left the engine running to keep the dog warm when she parked outside Eliot Presbyterian Church in Lowell to drop off some Christmas decorations at that time. She said she ran inside the Summer Street church to make the donation around 11 a.m. and was not gone for longer than 10 minutes.
Von Fricken said she borrowed a friend's car as soon as she got the call Monday and zipped down to the city to claim her friend. A microchip scan confirmed this dog was hers, and she brought him home. Monday night, she said she was preparing a turkey for both of them to enjoy.
A spokesman for the Boston Police Department confirmed Luke was found just outside the police station in Back Bay. Von Fricken's car was still missing as of Monday night.
Von Fricken found Luke three years ago at the Lowell Humane Society. Humane Society Executive Director Jill O'Connell said she was elated when she heard the good news of his safe return. The local shelter had put out a call to help Von Fricken last week, asking residents to be on the lookout for Luke. They coordinated with missing-dog groups in New Hampshire and beyond to keep a sharp eye out for him.
Von Fricken said though she questioned her faith previously, the kindness and support of her community brought her back. She said her mailman took Luke's photo and showed it around the neighborhood to try to help locate him. Then an 8-year-old son of a parishioner called to make sure Von Fricken was doing all right. Monday evening, the Rev. Thysan Sam of Eliot Presbyterian stopped by to check in, too. She told him Luke was completely unharmed and the car thief must have stolen her Honda, and then taken Luke to Boston to drop him off.
"The Lord is in everybody. He's in the mailman, he's in that little child," she said. "... I'm so happy to have Luke back."
Meanwhile, in the Tewksbury case, the dog's owner, Samantha Halley, 24, claimed her ex-boyfriend took her dog, named Lucc, without permission Saturday night when her parents let the dog out into their fenced-in backyard area on Emily Drive. Halley said she saw footprints indicating the dog left the area with another person.
Lucc, a 2-year-old pitbull with golden brown hair and a bright red nose, was returned by an anonymous person according to Tewksbury police on Sunday. Tewksbury police Lt. Robert Stephens said officials continue to investigate whether a person stole Lucc or if the dog was lost on its own.
Lowell Deputy Police Superintendent Deborah Friedl confirmed police will continue to investigate the theft of Von Fricken's vehicle in her case. For now, Von Fricken said she is planning to purchase a new car, and to enjoy Christmas with her family and her beloved dog.

Flo & Efa, border collies
Flo the stolen border collie puppy found at caravan site in Newent
By Hayley Mortimer
Monday 27th May 2013
HERE'S a 'tail' with a happy ending - Flo the stolen border collie puppy has been found at a caravan site in Newent.
The pooch went missing when the vehicle she was sleeping in was stolen from a house in Cranham.
Her owners Lucy and James Bent immediately contacted the police when their Land Rover Discovery was taken on Wednesday, May 15, with their two dogs inside.
James, a landscape gardener, had left the dogs in the back of the 4x4 parked on a driveway while he worked at a client’s house when it was taken at 10.45am.
Efa, a one-year-old collie, was found in the garden of a house in Brockworth later that day and was returned unharmed to the couple, who live in Burleigh.
The Land Rover was found nearby in Brockworth the following day, but Flo remained missing.
The couple launched an appeal, prompting a huge response on social media, and put up posters around Gloucestershire.
Lucy and James, both 43, were beginning to lose hope but on Tuesday, May 21, they received a phone call from a man who said Flo had turned up on a caravan site in Newent.
"He said she didn’t have any tags on her collar so he looked after her for a couple of days," said Lucy, an events co-ordinator at Westonbirt.
"But when he saw the posters he called us.
"He didn’t give his name but we arranged to meet him at a petrol station in Gloucester to hand her over.
"She was dirty but she was well and clearly hadn’t been harmed.
"We will never really know what happened to her but we are just so thrilled to have them both home.
"We are so grateful for all the help we have had, it has been phenomenal."

Joey, Australian shepherd
Sun Lakes woman gets stolen dog, car back

SUN LAKES, AZ - A Sun Lakes woman said she’s still in shock after thieves stole both her car and dog this week.
Carol Denmead spent Saturday with her 12-year-old dog, Joey, after going more than a day without him.
“It’s just [a] shock,” she said. “I’ve been kind of in shock for two days.”
Denmead said she left her car running with Joey inside on Thursday, as she ran into a nearby Walgreens to buy some ice cream. When she came out of the store, her car was gone.
“At first I thought I must have forgotten where I parked or something,” she said.
Authorities arrested three people in connection with the crime. Police were able to find the car Thursday, but the dog was nowhere to be found.
“He’s been all I have,” Denmead said. “He’s my only reason for getting up in the morning.”
Denmead said she received a call Friday, with a woman informing her they found Joey. The dog was reportedly wandering around in the far east Valley.
“They could have taken my car,” Denmead said of the suspects. “I want my puppy. I want my Joey.”
Denmead told ABC15 Joey is in good health, but has needed a lot of rest.
