Kimbo, pit bull

Missing Family Dog Reunited
Julie Carreiro, Hollister Police Department
Thursday May 9th, 2013

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA –May 9, 2013 – On May 8, 2013, Hollister Police Animal Care and Services Officers were able to reunite a pit bull dog with its original owner after it was missing almost a year.

On May 6, 2013 Hollister Police’s Animal Control Officers received a call from a Hollister resident who said he located his family pit bull that had been missing for almost eleven months. The man found his dog with another person on Jacqueline Drive, in Hollister. He said his dog, named Kimbo, recognized him and became very excited, but the person who had him on a leash refused to give him his dog.

On May 7, 2013 Hollister Police Animal Control Officers along with Hollister Police Officers were able to seize the dog as evidence and after an investigation it was determined the dog did belong to the man. He had documents and previous license information for Kimbo and several photographs of his family pet. He filed a lost report with the Hollister Animal Care and Services in June of 2012. The person who had the dog advised she found the dog that same month.

He was very happy to have his dog back. He owned Kimbo for more than five years and acquired him as a two month old puppy. He was very grateful to the Hollister Police Animal Control Officers for their assistance. Kimbo was also very excited and the man had Kimbo performed several tricks that he had taught him for shelter staff.

The person who found and failed to report the dog, Elizabeth Gonzalez (45), has been cited by Hollister Police and the report is being filed with the District Attorney’s Office for violation of Penal Code 485 Misappropriation/Theft of Lost Property.

Animal Care and Services wants to remind citizens that dogs are personal property and if you find a dog you must contact your local animal shelter to file a found report and scan for a micro-chip. In many cases, if the lost pet is not claimed the person who found the animal may be able to adopt it. It should be noted in this case, if the dog had been brought to the shelter, the dog would have been reunited almost a year ago.

Anyone wishing to rescue a dog and provide it with a “forever” home is encouraged to visit the animal shelter or visit the website to search for available pets. www.hollister.ca.gov The Hollister Police Department’s Animal Control Bureau is located at 1331 South Street.

Kipper, shih tzu

Disabled Boy Reunited With Service Dog

CATHEDRAL CITY - Nine-year-old Dominic Cumo is reunited with his service dog, Kipper, after it went missing for more than 17 hours overnight. Dominic and his parents spent the entire morning searching for Kipper in a Cathedral City neighborhood.

KMIR 6 printed hundreds of fliers with the Shih Tzu's photo to help in the search, and Dominic's parents distributed them around the neighborhood. They knocked on many doors, went down every street and asked for anyone's help.

Dominic's father Matthew Bateman says the dog never leaves the nine-year-old's side, so it was strange last night when it suddenly went missing. The family was talking with some neighbors and children in front of an apartment unit they rent, when the dog disappeared after a few minutes.

"The dog tells us if Dominic is not breathing, so it's hard to come by a dog like that," expressed Bateman, "He's very important to Dominic." He adds that Kipper helps keep Dominic alive.

Dominic has Lou Gehrig's disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that weakens the muscles and spinal cord. People diagnosed with this disorder lose the ability to move their limbs and the muscles needed to move, eat, speak and breathe. Dominic is the only child in the world diagnosed with Lou Gehrig's disease.

When the dog went missing, Dominic was devastated because his service dog helps him every day.

"I've never had a dog. He's my only one," said Dominic of his trained dog, Kipper.

KMIR 6 called the Riverside County Animal Services and suggested they join in the search. They responded with a team of six volunteers in three vans to help. They drove around the neighbhorhood and distributed fliers as well, and in less than two hours, they came back to the family with a surprise.

"This is amazing, this is amazing," said Dominic with tears in his eyes.

The animals services team found Kipper just a few blocks away outside a Stater Brothers, where one of the volunteers, Amir Rheys. recognized the dog. Rheys said a man on a bicycle was trying to sell Kipper, but they stopped him just in time. Rheys said he was thrilled to have reunited Dominic with Kipper.

"Thank you...thank you so much," said Dominic with a huge smile on his face.

Solow, min pin

Dog snatched from car window on Northwestside is reunited with family

Solow, the miniature pinscher snatched from a car window last month, was back with his family on Wednesday after he was found wandering on the city’s Northwestside.

4-year old miniature pinscher Solow rests on the lap of his owner Philip Squires after having been snatched from a car two weeks earlier
Philip Squires said the people who found the 4-year-old pinscher along Kessler Boulevard, West Drive took him to Michigan Road Animal Hospital, where the staff scanned his implanted microchip and identified him.

The Squires picked up Solow from the hospital Wednesday morning.

“He’s healthy and in good spirits. He’s glad to see us when we got there,” Squires said. “He’s back to his usual self. We got home, and he started sniffing around, making sure he’s in the right place.”

Solow disappeared while riding with Mary Squires on the Northwestside. She said she was at a stoplight at Georgetown Road and 56th Street on April 20 when a car pulled up closely to her right. Solow was sitting in the passenger seat, with his chin on the window edge.

The light turned green, Mary Squires stepped on the gas — and a man in the car reached over and snatched Solow out of the window.

“I don’t understand why they would’ve taken him,” Squires said. “I have no idea what was on those people’s minds when they snatched the dog out of the car.”

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) - A north Nashville family thought they'd lost their dog forever when he disappeared from their lawn almost a year ago.

Facebook helps family reunite with lost dog

A volunteer group called East C.A.N. posted a dog's picture on their Facebook page, which ended up being a family's pet that had been missing for months.

On Saturday they were reunited with him, thanks to Facebook.

Bobby Lyons says when her dog, Boxx, went missing about a year ago, her family was devastated.

She didn't know how they would find the 11-year-old pit bull mix.

"I told my husband somebody's got our dog. So we were hoping that he'd return but more days passed. Because Boxx is so friendly and lovable, he had not returned until yesterday," Lyons said.

The family was reunited with Boxx after the volunteer group East C.A.N. posted Boxx's picture on their Facebook page.

Lyons's granddaughter recognized Boxx and contacted the group, who brought the dog home.

Lyons says she considers Boxx's return a miracle and that her family is grateful to East C.A.N. for their help.
