It was a dark and stormy Saturday night (June 11). The Follett family, Sue, Rob and their three children just came back from a long ride to Connecticut to pick up their new family member, a two-year-old yellow Lab named Coconut.

The dog was not even in her new home (Putter Drive in South Acton) for more than 3 hours before she bolted out of the Follett’s mudroom door when she saw the opportunity. Rob tried to chase her down the street, but Coconut's youthful legs kicked-in and she sprinted into dark new territory. The Follett’s searched the area that night but did not find their dog.

Fast-forward 3 days later and a nearby neighbor lured Coconut into her car with a granola bar (It's not always bad to accept candy from a stranger).

The Follett’s contacted the local police departments who informed the local dog officers about the case and they also spread the word to their friends and community news outlets.

According to Sue, she received a phone call from someone that Coconut was spotted near the library on Sunday and another sighting on Monday on Pine Street. Receiving those calls were a relief for the Follett Family.

“We’re so excited to have her back,” said Sue. “Obviously that is an understatement. We have planned all along to change her name to Lucky because we adopted her through ‘Lucky Lab’ and we’re definitely going to stick with that name now.”
