Reese

After five weeks, 1,425 East Atlanta Patch readers spreading the word on Facebook and sending good vibes and well wishes for her safe return, Reese, the missing Edgewood pooch, is back with her Mom.

Reese's owner, Whitney X. Teufel, wrote a letter to the East Atlanta Patch community asking for help in finding her dog after a May 20 home invasion of her La France Street house.

Reese, who is shy, escaped in the commotion and had been missing since.

Teufel just e-mailed us the good news that the two were reunited Thursday afternoon.

"I just found her this afternoon!!!!!! 5 weeks!"

Teufel explains the reuinion:

"Reese has been spotted all around town throughout Kirkwood to the East Lake Golf Club.

Reese escaped Friday, May 20, following a home invasion of a LaFrance Street home in Edgewood

On Friday afternoon, two girls who had read the story — Rebecca and Alicia — saw her in Pullman Yard. I started to leave food in there, but received a call that she had moved onto Kirkwood again. The Kirkwood neighborhood association lent me a trap, that I set up in Pullman Yard on Monday.

I worked from home today because I was having my back door replaced from the break-in.

Around 4 pm, I went over to put food in the trap — it looked like it might rain later — she was standing outside of the trap — trying to get the food without going in! I called her name and she came to me. I carried her out — didn’t have a leash on me.

She is very skinny, very dirty, has several wounds on her back that are healing — looks like she may have been hit by a car and rolled — but she is OK.

I am so grateful for everyone who sent well wishes.

Xxoo

W."

Coconut->Lucky, yellow lab

Acton Missing Dog Found - Name Changes to Lucky
After only being with her new family for a few hours, Lucky (formerly known as Coconut) ran away from home and was found 3 days later.
By Patrick Clark
June 15, 2011

It was a dark and stormy Saturday night (June 11). The Follett family, Sue, Rob and their three children just came back from a long ride to Connecticut to pick up their new family member, a two-year-old yellow Lab named Coconut.

The dog was not even in her new home (Putter Drive in South Acton) for more than 3 hours before she bolted out of the Follett’s mudroom door when she saw the opportunity. Rob tried to chase her down the street, but Coconut's youthful legs kicked-in and she sprinted into dark new territory. The Follett’s searched the area that night but did not find their dog.

Fast-forward 3 days later and a nearby neighbor lured Coconut into her car with a granola bar (It's not always bad to accept candy from a stranger).

The Follett’s contacted the local police departments who informed the local dog officers about the case and they also spread the word to their friends and community news outlets.

According to Sue, she received a phone call from someone that Coconut was spotted near the library on Sunday and another sighting on Monday on Pine Street. Receiving those calls were a relief for the Follett Family.

“We’re so excited to have her back,” said Sue. “Obviously that is an understatement. We have planned all along to change her name to Lucky because we adopted her through ‘Lucky Lab’ and we’re definitely going to stick with that name now.”

Lost Dog in West Islip

Dog Reunited With Owner Thanks to Social Media
An ad posted on West Islip Patch's facebook wall leads lost dog back to owner
By Judy Mottl
June 29, 2011

West Islip resident, Angela G, went to the web to reunite an eight-to 10-year-old female dog with its owner.
The dog was found by Angela wandering Livingston toward Route 109 in Babylon Village on June 27. She brought her to a vet in hopes of finding a micro chip implanted providing ownership clues but no luck. The dog didn't have any tags.

So then Angela went viral and used her social networking skills to get the dog back home before the day was over.

"I posted a few pictures on Facebook, called a few places in town and thanks to help of our community working together, she was reunited yesterday evening. Only 16 hours after we spotted her! That's social media at its best!"

GILBERT, Ariz. - A missing retired show dog has been located and was reunited with her owner Tuesday.

Belle, a 3-year-old Australian Shepherd, and her sister Scarlet retired as show dogs in Washington state and were flown to Arizona to be placed in a temporary home.

The person who took them in left the front door open and Belle ran away.

She was located Monday night after dozens of fliers were posted in the area.

Her original owner, Linda Reau, was staying at a local hotel while they searched for Belle. She flew back to Seattle Monday night and 30 minutes after she arrived, she received word that Belle had been found.

Linda flew back to Gilbert to be reunited with Belle. She plans to go back to Washington with Belle in a few days.
